Vessel sinks near Chattogram, 12 crew members missing

A small cargo vessel called Hira Parbat-8 carrying 1100 tonnes of coal sunk due to bad weather in Bay of Bengal Thursday morning. All the 12 crew members of the ship are missing.

The incident occurred near the Sagu gas field in Chattogram. Mahbub Rashid, executive director of Water Transport Cell of the port said that Coast Guard and the Navy are carrying out a search operation in the area.

The vessel was on its way to Dhaka after loading coalfrom a mother vessel from the outer anchorage of the port at Chattogram. More details are awaited.
