European Medicines Agency has said that AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine is safe and effective. European Medicines Agency’s safety committee said on Thursday after concluding its preliminary review of people vaccinated with COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca.
This comes after several countries temporarily suspended use of the vaccine over fears about side effects. The European Medicines Agency said that the vaccine is not associated with an increase in the overall risk of blood clots in those who receive it and there is no evidence of a problem related to specific batches of the vaccine or to particular manufacturing sites.
Earlier, the World Health Organization had reaffirmed its support for the shot. Meanwhile, Germany, France and other European nations have announced plans to resume using AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine on after EU and British regulators moved to shore up confidence in the shot, saying its benefits outweigh the risks.
On Thursday, Germany said it would resume administering the AstraZeneca vaccine, France too said it would resume use of the vaccine, with Prime Minister Jean Castex saying he would receive the shot himself.
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said Italy would do the same, and that his government’s priority remained to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible.
