Jaishankar to Hold Talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Mumbai on October 20
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will hold talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Mumbai on October 20, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Friday.
The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for India and the United States to review their bilateral relationship and discuss ways to advance cooperation across several priority areas.
According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the discussions are expected to cover energy, trade and investment, defence, critical and emerging technologies, as well as regional and global developments.
Rubio’s visit to India is scheduled for October 19–22, with engagements in Mumbai and Jamnagar in Gujarat. The visit is expected to include business-related meetings and discussions concerning bilateral energy cooperation.
Jaishankar will also host United Arab Emirates Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Mumbai on October 19 and 20. The UAE minister’s visit will provide an opportunity to review the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and take forward cooperation in areas including energy, trade, investment, financial technology, defence and connectivity.
The planned meetings underline India’s continuing engagement with two important international partners. Discussions with the United States are expected to address economic and strategic cooperation, while the UAE engagement will focus on advancing the wide-ranging partnership between the two countries.
The MEA said the forthcoming engagements would help sustain high-level dialogue and advance shared priorities. Hosting visiting foreign dignitaries in different Indian cities is an established practice, allowing official meetings and related engagements to take place across the country.
The discussions will take place amid continued efforts by India and its partners to strengthen economic links, improve cooperation in strategic sectors and exchange views on international developments.
The outcomes of the meetings are expected to provide direction for further engagement between the respective governments and their agencies.
